Ester probably wants Deborah to stay in the hospital longer, so she doesn't go crazy in their house. It surprises Ester when Jacob says he is going to visit next time. Ester doesn't approve!
but doesn't she care about her daughter? i would want my daughter to get better not stay so far away and be sick. i feel like her mother is stating to show she might be the reason Deborah is sick.
that's very true. my mom would never let me be in the hospital that long, she would try and get me out asap. Plus, couldn't they give her medicine for schizophrenia? I read a book before and there was a schizophrenic dude, whenever he forgot his medicine he would go crazy, but with it he was completely normal.
maybe they don't have the medication yet and they don't really know how to fix people like her. maybe they just let people with schizophrenia just die out so its not past on. i know its a harsh way to look at it but what if they are?
oh thats true. I forgot this book takes place in the 1940's. So they probably don't have the medicine, and they probably just want everyone that is "diseased" to die out because they aren't normal or useful to earth. but why do they have the hospital, why not just put them to death??
becasue i think they don't want sick people to be scared to get help. they want to have them locked up mso they can move on in life and pass on the sickness. if people that are sick find out that they will be put to death for being who they are they wont act that way.

I believe what Kelsey says. At some parts of the book Jacob and Ester don't act like shes their daughter, more or less just a human being. It seems they only want one daughter at home, which they have. maybe that tumor in her uterus was a set up, and it wasn't really there. Deborah's parents just wanted the doctors to screw her up.

i agree but they still weren't helping even thought they thought they weren't doing anything wrong. they could have realized that what they were doing wasn't helping her and that maybe they could do something different.
They most likely weren't the whole reason to Deborah's craziness, but they probably did have a part in it. They are trying to move away from her because they think she will die at a young age and it is probably the easy thing to do now, they should enjoy her presence on Earth while shes still here, and fight the hard times when they come.
i think they just put way too much in to it or just didn't even see it there. poor susie was fighting for her parents to see her and everything she does but all they could see was a way to help or forget deborah. susie kind of got pushed to the side becasue she is health and they know she will do great in the world without her parents help. but it doesn't mean she doesn;t eant htem to see her succeed.

ReplyDeleteI feel that they may have made a contribution to the craziness that over takes Deborah, but they are not the only reason that she has her problem.
